Small meat pies

Small meat pies

Small pies (fried pies) are often served in the houses of Crete that, apart from ksinomizithra (i.e. sarikopites) or sweet mizithra or herbs, they can be filled with many other ingredients.

If you follow the below recipe, we are sure you will follow it again!

For the filling:

1 kilo of mince (like the mince of sausages)

1 glass of olive oil

1 onion

1 glass of red wine

Salt, Pepper, Cumin

For the dough:

1 kilo of flour

1 glass of olive oil

1 glass of raki

2½ glasses of water

½ lemon juice

The dough of the meat pies is the same with that of courgettes pies.

1. Add olive oil in a pan and brown the onion.

2. Add the mince and brown it.

3. Add the wine, salt, pepper and cumin and leave it under a medium heat until it is free from the liquids of the filling.

4. After the filling is ready, remove the pan from the heat and leave it a few minutes to rest in order to get colder.

5. Roll out the dough and fill it with a teaspoon of the filling in every square of it.

6. Fry the pies in olive oil.
