Kaltsounia

Here is a very delicious recipe to treat your guests and, of course, to enjoy yourselves after the end of Lent. Kaltsounia are made in Crete during the holidays and are necessary for the Easter dinner and lunch. Enjoy!

A delicious recipe for anevata kalitsounia (i.e. risen kalitsounia)!

For the dough:

Mastic

½ cup of sugar

½ glass of 250 gr. with milk

Butter

1 bag of yeast

5 eggs

1 stick of vanilla

2.5 kilos of flour

For the filling:

3 kilos of mizithra

2 cups of sugar

2-3 teaspoons of honey

1 stick of cinnamon

1. Make the dough and leave it to rise (the dough will be risen if it is pressed inside and does not come back).

2. Make the filling, roll the dough and cut it in big circles or big squares.

3. Put some of the filling in the center of the circle or the square and press the edges of the dough in order to close the filling inside them.

4. Put them in the oven and powder some egg and sesame over them.
