Kalo Chorio, an almost abandoned settlement in the Municipality of Sitia, is part of the local community of Ziros, located about 36 kilometers away from the town of Sitia. Although the 2011 census recorded only 9 permanent residents, the village still captivates visitors with its authentic charm and Cretan tradition, preserved through its stone houses and narrow alleys.

The history of the village is somewhat mysterious, as it was not mentioned in earlier censuses, such as that of Kastrofylakas in 1583, suggesting that Kalo Chorio was founded after the 16th century. However, in the 1881 census, it was recorded with 136 inhabitants, indicating that it was once a more active and vibrant settlement. Today, time seems to have stopped in Kalo Chorio, and its few residents are mainly engaged in agriculture.

The village's isolated location makes it ideal for those who seek tranquility and wish to enjoy a peaceful walk in nature. Visitors can explore the surrounding agricultural landscapes, discover picturesque trails, and experience the absolute calm that the area offers. Although tourist infrastructure is almost nonexistent, the village provides a unique experience of authentic Crete for those looking for something different, far from tourist crowds.

The area around Kalo Chorio offers interesting historical elements, as archaeological finds from the Minoan period have been discovered near the village. Although excavations have not progressed extensively, the findings highlight the long-standing historical significance of the area.
