One of the most impressive and imposing gorges in Crete is the Arvi Gorge, which cuts through the Arvion Mountain (also known as "Plevra") and leads to the lush valley of the village of Arvi, near the sea. The gorge stretches for about 2.5 km and features both accessible paths and more difficult, impassable sections, making it ideal for experienced canyoners.

The gorge is renowned for its dramatic geomorphology, highlighted by the Kapnisti waterfall, which plunges approximately 80 meters. The spring waters that flow through the gorge, especially during winter, nourish rich vegetation, with the Kefalovryssos spring being the main source, providing irrigation for the Arvi Valley, famous for its banana plantations.

Access to the gorge is from the northern part, through the forested area of Lydi, while the exit is on the southern side, just 1 km from the beach of Arvi, offering visitors the chance to enjoy a refreshing swim after their adventure.
