A rock appears between olive trees in the Sokara area and some wine presses and rooms are carved on it. They were used as safe-keeping places and this is the archaeological site of Vakiotes, in the municipality of Gortyna.

You should follow a dirt road in the east of Sokaras, if you want to visit those magnificent winepresses. Alternatively, there is another beautiful but a bit difficult dirt road that goes through the desolated Velouli settlement, in the north of Apoini, on a hill with a panoramic view of the Mesara plain.

A Middle Minoan country house with interesting findings has been discovered in the areas “Chalikias” and “Melissa”, in Faragiana.
