2. Sfinari - Elafonisi

The second route of the E4 European long distance path of Crete is 32 kilometers and lasts about 8 hours. The ideal time to visit it is spring and autumn. There is not a difficult route and there are many signs during the route. After Sfinari, you head to south-east and follow the upward asphalted road that passes by Ano Sfinari settlement. After about 5 kilometers and at the 350 meters above the sea level, you reach the center of the Kampos community. Then, going down about 1,5 kilometers, you arrive at the Plagia village, pass the dirt road with the “Elafonisi” road sign on the right and lead to Keramoti after 4 kilometers and to Amigdalokefali after 3 kilometers. Heading to the east and passing by the desolated Simantiriana settlement and the Papadiana village, you arrive at Kefali. Then, after 1 kilometer, you follow the right fork to the Chrisoskalitissa Monastery. Going down about 2,5 kilometers, you reach and pass the Vathi settlement, continue for about 1,5 kilometers to the Plokamiana village and head to the west of the Vathi torrent to Elafonisi. After 4 kilometers on the dirt road part of which comes through the torrent and 700 meters to the exit of the torrent to the sea, you turn left to the road where, after 3 kilometers, is an “Elafonisi” road sign. The Chrisoskalitissa monastery is about 500 meters from the road sign turning right. There are buses every day from and to the monastery that start from Chania and Kisamos.
