Ligres Beach (or Liggres) is located on the southern coast of Rethymno, 51 km from the town and 7 km south of the village of Kerame, at the foothills of Mount Siderotas. The beach is renowned for its tranquility and crystal-clear, deep waters. Surrounded by wild, rocky landscapes, it creates a unique sense of peace and seclusion, making it an ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking relaxation away from mass tourism.
The beach features coarse sand in some areas, while other parts are characterized by fine sand. The water is so clear that the seabed is visible even at great depths. Although the beach is unorganized, providing a natural, untouched experience without sunbeds or umbrellas, there are a few taverns on the western part of the beach, offering fresh local dishes, as well as a few rental rooms for accommodation.
A notable natural attraction in the area is the waterfall located at the western end of the beach, which flows directly into the sea year-round, adding to the picturesque landscape.
Access to the beach is via a rough road leading from the village of Kerame. This challenging route ensures that the beach remains quiet and free from large tourist crowds. The seclusion of the beach also attracts nudists, mainly in the Katsouni area, at the northern end of the beach, which is completely isolated.
Finally, visitors who enjoy exploration can walk along the coastline to Triopetra, admiring the geological formations and rock folds. Ligres Beach is part of the larger Akoumiani Gialia, one of the largest and least developed beaches in Crete, stretching for several kilometers, offering multiple opportunities for exploration.
