It is one of Crete’s most picturesque mountain shelters, offering breathtaking views of both the Cretan and Libyan Seas, as well as the famous Samaria Gorge and the southernmost island of Europe, Gavdos.

To reach the refuge, follow the route from Xyloskalo, the starting point of the renowned Samaria Gorge. The path includes a 5-kilometer dirt road and a scenic 1.5-hour hike, ideal for those who love hiking. At the end of the trail, you will arrive at an idyllic refuge, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the pristine natural environment.

Kallergi Refuge can accommodate up to 50 people and is equipped with modern amenities, including wood-burning stoves and a fireplace, making the stay cozy and comfortable. It is open daily from April to October, while in the winter season (November to March), it operates only on weekends. The refuge is well-organized, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy hiking and climbing routes in the surrounding area.

Kallergi serves as a key base for many mountain activities, as it connects to three major European hiking trails (E4). The most famous of these runs through Samaria Gorge and ends in Agia Roumeli. There is also a trail leading to the Kallergi refuge and continuing to Kallergi. Moreover, the Gigilos area near the refuge provides several climbing routes for mountaineering enthusiasts.
