Tavris Refuge is located at an altitude of 1,200 meters on the beautiful Tavris Plateau, near Askifou, in Chania. It can be accessed either by a 7.5 km dirt road from Askifou or through a scenic hiking trail through a cypress forest, taking approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Built in 1992, the refuge offers comfortable and peaceful accommodation for its visitors.

It can host up to 45 people and provides basic amenities such as heating via a fireplace, a generator for electricity, water from a tap, toilets, and showers. The refuge is also a starting point for hikes to the Kastros summit (2,219 m) and the impressive Sfakiano and Kavi gorges. The European E4 trail also passes by the refuge.

The refuge hosts camps for children and adults, making it an ideal choice for nature lovers, hikers, and mountaineers looking for a peaceful, natural escape. For visits, contact the Mountaineering Club of Chania.
