Melissa fortress

Melissa fortress

The Melissa fortress in near the settlement of Agios Thomas, on the top of a hill with a magnificent view.

It is one of the largest fortifications of the inland and was built about the 2nd Byzantine era.

You can visit it by driving in a dirt road in the west of the fortification. The small settlement of Melissa was built there, but today it is not preserved. The winepresses of the fortress are also preserved about 100 meters in the south. It is naturally guarded by a cliff in the east.

The church of Zoodochos Pigi is also in the same area.
